Nothing is free to run. The question worth asking is which part of your video is paying for it.
The four business models behind "free"
Every free tool is funding itself somehow, and the method almost always shows up in what you download:
- A watermark, usually placed where cropping it would ruin the frame, which on a vertical clip means straight across your artwork.
- A resolution cap, most often 720p, so the free output is visibly softer than what you were shown in the preview.
- A subscription after a trial, priced on the assumption that you will forget to cancel in the months you never open it.
- Your uploads, held on their servers, with terms worth reading properly if the track is unreleased.
Why a watermark costs more than it looks
A watermark is not just an aesthetic annoyance. On a music post it undermines the thing the post is for, which is making a release look finished. A logo across the cover art signals that the artwork was run through a free tool, and that reads to a listener the same way a stock template does.
It is also the hardest one to work around. A resolution cap you can partly live with; a subscription you can cancel. A watermark is on every frame of the file you were going to post.
What is actually free here, stated plainly

The genuine catch
It needs a desktop browser: Chrome, Edge, Brave, or Arc. Safari and Firefox have not shipped what is required to build the video on your own machine, and there is no mobile version for the same reason.
That is a real limitation rather than a soft one. If you make content on a phone, a cloud tool is the right answer and no amount of the above changes that. If you are on a laptop, it is the trade that removes the upload, the queue, and the watermark all at once.
