One identity, two frames, several useful cuts.
Choose the source visual system
Set the artwork, visualizer style, colours and type once. These are the recognisable elements that should survive across formats.
Make portrait clips deliberately
Use 9:16 and choose strong sections for Reels, TikTok and Shorts. Reposition the subject so interface overlays do not cover the important information.
Recompose for long-form
Switch to a 16:9 YouTube project and use the complete track. Preserve the visual language while taking advantage of the wider frame.
Reuse decisions that carry identity and redo decisions that depend on the frame
Consistency comes from artwork, colour and movement—not from forcing one composition into every rectangle.
What should stay the same
Keep the cover, palette, visualizer family and text treatment consistent. Those choices make separate uploads feel like one release campaign.
You can also reuse the same source project as the reference for intensity, smoothing and background treatment.
What should change
Portrait needs a vertically stacked composition and room for platform interface elements. Landscape has more horizontal space and can support the complete song, longer titles and progress information.
The track section should change too. A short feed post normally needs the strongest entry point, while a YouTube upload can begin at the actual start.
A practical export order
Finish the portrait treatment first because it exposes layout problems quickly at phone size. Once the visual identity works, rebuild it in landscape and inspect the complete song.
- Export one clean portrait master.
- Use that file for Reels, TikTok and Shorts where appropriate.
- Create alternate hooks only when they test a real difference.
- Export the full landscape version separately.
A repeatable system beats an automatic crop
The source identity can be shared. The frame and timing should be decided for each viewing context.
| Feature | Two compositions | One universal export |
|---|---|---|
| Visual identity | Shared | Shared |
| Framing | Designed for 9:16 and 16:9 | Cropped automatically |
| Track section | Chosen by destination | Same everywhere |
| Text safety | Checked per platform | May be covered |
| Full-song option | Dedicated landscape export | Portrait compromise |
