Start with the square artwork you already release with. It can remain full-frame, sit inside a vinyl label or become the central subject.
Choose what should react
Use spectrum for frequency energy, waveform for a familiar audio trace, vinyl for artwork-led motion or another style for a stronger visual transformation.
Compose for the destination
Protect the title and artist name from interface overlays, then export portrait for social feeds or landscape for YouTube.
Animation should extend the artwork rather than cover it
The cover is the recognition device. The motion is there to make somebody stop long enough to hear it.
Choose an artwork-led treatment
A spinning vinyl keeps the cover at the centre of the composition. A waveform or spectrum can sit below or around it. More transformative effects work when the artwork has enough visual space to remain identifiable.
Do not treat every empty area as something that needs filling. The moving element needs contrast, but it also needs room.
Make the audio relationship obvious
Preview the strongest transient or bass section and confirm that the movement changes with the track. A generic pulsing loop can animate an image, but it does not communicate the specific song in the same way.
Use enough smoothing to make the motion intentional without removing the contrast between quiet and loud sections.
Prepare separate portrait and landscape compositions
A single crop rarely protects the same artwork in every format. Reposition the visualizer and cover for each frame rather than relying on the platform to crop it.
- Keep important type away from social interface edges.
- Check the cover at phone size.
- Use a compatible palette instead of default colours.
- Preview the export with sound on and off.
Audio-reactive layer or fully bespoke motion?
A visualizer is fastest when the song should drive an existing design. Motion software wins when every artwork element needs separate choreography.
